29 Years Old - Marriageable Age?
29 years old: the year I attended 3 weddings of friends my age. It’s an unexplainable feeling when you realise that the people who used to be at the same stage of life as you 10 years ago are now heading into different stages of life.
My primary school friend, Wei Ling, whom I’ve known for 19 years. We attended 2 weddings for her, the first one in Singapore and the second one in Malaysia.
A few of us flew from Malaysia to Singapore and we really had a great time. We don’t usually travel overseas together, so this gave us a chance to spend time together, play tourist and chit-chat. We had a church wedding followed by a night reception at the Sheraton Hotel.
Then came the wedding in Malaysia. A few of us (Chou Tong, Mae and I) helped out as there was no event or wedding organiser. We were quite stressed initially and the restaurant wasn’t very cooperative. There were also a lot of delays in food service during the wedding night. But thank God everything still ended on a good note. Ahhh, seeing your primary school friend getting married made me emotional. The girl whom we used to talk to non-stop in class (the noisiest Trio, with Hooi Yee). The girl whose father used to fetch me home after school.
2nd Wedding: 7th June
My university friend, Wing Yeng, whom I’ve known for 11 years.
It was a chaotic and packed-with-schedules kind of wedding. There was an ice cream booth, photo booth, a storytelling session and even a K-pop performance (they both met through K-pop back in university).
It was also a good get-together as we hardly get to meet each other anymore. Another thing I want to bring up is that, before heading to the wedding venue, 5 of us (Rishen, Anson, Josh, Chou Tong) met up at a dessert place called Sik Thong Ba and carpooled to the venue. That journey made us relive our university days, when all of us would cram into a car, heading from one place to another, with laughter, singing and nonsense conversations.

The chaotic peeps we used to be, burning the midnight oil just to churn out a good short film together.

3rd Wedding: 5th July
Another friend, Karen, from the same university batch, whom I’ve also known for 11 years.
It was a relaxed kind of wedding. Very different because there was no fixed schedule, no emcee introducing the newlyweds or anything like that. You simply registered yourself, talked to your friends and the newlyweds and got straight into the feast.
After dinner, we moved indoors and gathered around a table to chit-chat. We had a good time talking to each other. There was this one topic where the two newlyweds shared how much they spent on their wedding and house renovation and it got us thinking, how can we save up that large sum of money to prepare these events so soon?
The same group of people.
It’s events like these that give us a chance to gather as a bigger group and reconnect. So… who’s next?
