Study Abroad in the UK - First time leaving home

22/9/2017

After days and months of hesitation, I have finally made my decision to join our Uni's dual award programme (it does sounds like twinning programme where we get to receive degree certificates from both universities). For my course, my university collaborated with Coventry University located in United Kingdom where we will study abroad for 4 months.

This dual award programme was a really rush thing for us (oh, I am joining this with another 4 friends of mine). This is because we only get to know this in July and we need to decide and pay within a short period of time. Not to mention, we only bought our flight ticket 3 weeks before our departure and the exact departure date is only 1 week after our final (so yalar, no doubt the flight ticket is expensive - RM3955 for Qatar airway to and fro, 40kg luggage allowance and some other little things).

The day has arrived. Leaving home. Leaving Malaysia.

I was beyond grateful that it is a public holiday. My whole family is able to send me off. I had a mixed feeling while we were on our way to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). I am excited to gain new experience, yet feeling guilty of spending too much my parents' money for this programme.

When we reached KLIA, I am welcomed by my best classmates and they even did a board for us. (but hey, they chose my ugliest photo and pasted on top of the board! and they were to happy that I am the only one who gave reaction to the board. of course la, my photo is the most hideous one compared to others aiyo)  Later, my bf reached too. He passed my one of his shirts so that I can feel his existence in UK hahaha (dramatic much? but it is an usual thing couple did for their LDR isn't it? He even slipped in a photo of us. And also I only realised there are words behind of it AFTER A FEW DAYS I ARRIVED UK! Opps they are all his supporting words on it. It was touching when I read it.)

Appreciate their existence in my study life.

Time to enter the departure hall. I took photos with my family, my bf and my friends. Then, I hugged each of them. The first person that I hugged is my dad. When I hugged him, dad gave me motivated words and I heard his trembling voice. I can't even give any replies, I knew I am going to cry if I speak. After I hug him, dad went aside, I believe he had his tears too, worry about her beloved daughter leaving home for the first time. Then, mum, grandma and both sisters. Grandma cried the most, I can't resist but cried along too. Grandma going to miss me the most, taking care of us since young. Even both sisters of mine had their tears rolling after seeing my grandma shedding tears. (typing this made me cry again.) Bf hugged me the longest, giving me words of support, telling me to take good care of myself. Then hugging my friends who drove all the way here to send us off. Seriously, saying goodbye is the hardest thing ever.

Family photo which I treasure much. Love you guys.
The one who gave me support (this photo certainly looks awkward HAHAHA I have no idea why)

Flight took off at 830pm, 445am reached Doha, Qatar airport, waited 2 hours in the airport and took another flight and reached Birmingham, United Kingdom airport at 2pm (all are following Malaysia's time). *note: reaching UK on 23rd of September 2017

We went to our hostel, Priory Hall by a minibus where a student ambassador of Coventry University led us the way (she is a Malaysian though). When we are finally settled down after a long, tiring flight, she brought us to look around and introduce us some places including the universities. This is only the time we realised Coventry University does not has a fixed place as it campus, it mix with the city centre. It means the buildings of Coventry University are scattered, while in between there are resident area, shop houses and shopping area. The best thing is the city centre is just walking distance from our hostel. It is really convenient for us.

We had our lunch at The Hub (had our university's catered food) and had our dinner at Jimbo (Chinese cuisine).

Day(s) ended.

I will love this place.
