Working Part-time in foodpanda

1/10/2018 - 27/2/2019

"I am going to work later"
"Where do you work?"
"foodpanda."
"What? As a rider? You deliver food? With a bike?"
"Nah..."

Everyone only think of the delivery guy instead of the system behind. Just a common, usual conversation when others asked me where do I work at.

It was a valuable working experience for me after working in foodpanda for 5 months (or 4 months as I stopped one month in between). The reason of me working is because I had a super strong urge to earn money at that period of time. I want to earn some money before I graduate, to travel or as a pocket money for myself.
Some Chinese words I wrote on my insta story on my last day of work.

Here, I am going to share a tiny bit of my working experience in foodpanda company. I went for interview on the last week of September 2018, during my semester break. During the interview session, they tested my speaking skill, typing skill and writing skill. Then, I was asked if I am able to handle email and I answered "Yes, I can.". I totally have no idea this led me to join email department as my friends who used to work in foodpanda did not mention a tiny bit about email.

This is my first time working in a big company. It feels so surreal to me. I need to be really cautious in everything I am doing, every action counts. I was assigned to work as an Partner Service Executive in Chinese/Cantonese email team. It is all about solving vendor's inquiries through email. It is not as easy as I thought, there are so much to learn. I seriously do not know that is coming. However, I was lucky enough to have helpful and friendly colleagues to guide me.

It is not just about email. We have to answer and make calls as well. Guess what? CALLS FROM TAIWAN AND HONG KONG's vendors. Phewww, speaking in Chinese with Taiwanese vendors has no issue at all, but with HongKi vendors? That was a tough and challenging one. Yea, I can converse in Cantonese with my family but converse in a proper/formal Cantonese with HongKi...... A BIG NONO (my mum wouldn't correct me if she found out I speak wrongly because she can understand every single word of her daughter) Why do I say they are challenging? It is because most of the Hong Kong's vendor are in rush and quick-tempered, and my poor Cantonese skills made things worse. I was scolded many times even though I am not at fault. But what can I do? It is part of my job. HAHAHA but after some time, I am immune to it so it was fine. There was also a time where the vendor request for another agent to speak to them because the vendor claimed I have a weird accent while speaking Cantonese. I was like "OKAYYY I AGREEEEEE" and let me get some help.

After 5 months, I have resigned from foodpanda. I need to focus on my last semester of my bachelor's degree programme which I believe it is going to be a hectic semester. On my last few minutes of work, we took photos but there were only 5 of us, another 4 (Francesca, Vivan, Ng and Jia Yun) were not on shift. Then, let me describe the situation after taking photos: "My team leader aka Vivien dajie can be seen tears rolling in her eyes, Crossen showing an expression of "I can't bear the thought of you leaving", Tiffany trying to make lighten up the heavy mood with her funny stories + her unique gaoxiao slang and Adrian who hardly utter any words at this point.". At that time, I can feel how family-like this team is.

I bet without even mentioning who they are, you are able to match who is who through the different personalities I have written above.

The goodbye I said to them feels like a real GOODBYE. It seems like it will be the last time I see them. Meeting up seems tough when each of them having different working hour and I have my own study schedule.

It was a bless to know every individual I came across with in foodpanda and also all the helping hands I received along the journey. Thanks for the trust I have gained from my team leader and all the kind assistance and teaching from my colleagues. Truly appreciate them.
