E-hailing Rides in Romania

24 Dec 2023

Bought this magnet from Cărturești Verona, a bookstore located at Bucharest, Romania. 🧲
I personally think it is very nice, with different places of attraction on it. However, it was a little costly, 20 Lei/pc.

Opps back to topic, just wanted to do a quick sharing on my e-hailing experience in Romania. Before my travel, I did some reads up on how tourists commute in Romania. Other than public transport, e-hailing is widely used, Grab and Bolt  are the two most mentioned applications. We downloaded these 2 applications and whenever we need to use it, we will compare the prices.

My verdicts:

1. Bolt is generally cheaper and there is 50% discount for new users. Screenshot as reference below. These are my rides and the original costs should be double the price! After these 3 rides, the prices are back to normal, without any promo.

2. It is hard to get a bolt or grab driver if you are out of city, even you choose a more luxurious cars or more expensive options. You have to keep trying on both apps and if luck is upon a you, you will only get one. This happened when we were at Bran Castle a.k.a Dracula Castle. Our bolt driver told us that it is hard to get e-hailing ride in the evening as no drivers would want to wait outskirts knowing there might or might not have any passengers. We were lucky we managed to get one!

Dracula Castle 🦇🧛🏻🏰

3. Getting an e-hailing ride in the city is easy-peasy! Nothing to worry about. Oh except you might want to reconsider if you are at a busy town, for example off work time in Bucharest city on a weekday. One local told us not to take a cab or even a bus, take the subway or train if you don't want to find yourself stuck on the road.

Conclusion: Try Bolt and always compare prices!

That's all for now. Byeeeee.
